Day 1: Wedging & Introduction to Pinching (90min)
In the first session, students will learn how to prepare and wedge their own clay. They will be taught the "Bull's/Ram’s head" wedging technique. Then, they are introduced to Pinching technique and are required to explore multiple forms using the same.

Day 2: Introduction to Coiling (90min)
In this session, students are introduced to Coiling technique that also includes merging coils together and exploring multiple forms that are more dynamic.

Day 3: Introduction to Slabs (90min)
Students will be taught how to make their own slabs using rolling pins and the slab roller. Then they can explore various stages of working with a slab, that is leather hard or soft. They will be taught to build various forms, geometric and organic.

Day 4: Pinching Project (90min)
Students are required to come up with ideas for a pinching project, the instructor will guide and help them with the execution.

Day 5: Coiling Project (90min)
Students are required to come up with ideas for a coiling project, the instructor will guide and help them with the execution.

Day 6: Slab Project (90min)
Students are required to come up with ideas for a slab project, the instructor will guide and help them with the execution.

Day 7&8: Final Project (90min)
For the final project, the students are required to come up with ideas for a challenging project that combines all three techniques. Thereafter, they work on ideation and execution.

The following are included in the package:

- Pottery INSTRUCTORS

- CLAY required for the session
  2 kgs per session. 
  3 kgs for the final project

- All necessary TOOLS

- Individual APRON

- Quality GLAZES to colour your respective pcs.

- 2X CLAY FIRINGS (Bisque-firing & Glaze-firing)
 

Note: By the end of the Workshop, students will have 4 hand-built Pieces to take home.

Hand Building Workshop Guidelines


GLAZING

Students will be contacted 2 weeks after their last session for a glazing demonstration, scheduled according to the instructor and studio availability, which they are expected to be present for.

In this session, you also get a demonstration of how to apply glazes, which is the last step of the process.

Students are expected to complete their glazing within 2 weeks from the demonstration.


FIRING

Students’ pieces will be bisque fired post 2 weeks from the end date of the workshop.

After glazing their work, students can collect their glaze fired items 2 weeks from the day they finish glazing.

Bisque fired pots will be discarded post two months from the date of the Glazing demo.


MAKE-UP SESSIONS

No Make-up classes provided.


GENERAL STUDIO DECORUM

- Students are required to respect the community space at the studio.

- Students are expected to prepare their own clay, manage used clay and discard clay- as guided by the instructor for each class, which remains constant for all sessions.

- Students will be cleaning up after themselves, after every session, as guided by the instructor in the first session. Please follow the same.

- Students are to keep the tools and equipment in their designated place after usage.
