Day 1 & Day 2: Preparing Clay and Centering

In the first session, students will learn how to prepare and wedge their own clay. They will be taught the "Bull's/Ram’s head" method to prepare clay for throwing. They will then be introduced to the first step to working on the wheel, Centering.


Day 3 & Day 4: Cylinder

Students learn the next crucial step which is how to open the centered mound of clay, make a base, and pull up walls to make the most basic form, the Cylinder.


Day 5 & Day 6: Shaping Techniques

Once students have learned how to make cylinders, the next step is to convert them into different shapes. This class will focus on making vertical forms like cups, bowls, etc.


Day 7: Trimming, Finishing, and Attachments 

In this class, students will be taught how to finish their pieces in preparation for firing: trimming to remove extra clay, adding a foot ring to the base, and attaching handles.


Day 8: Finishing

Students are taught how to finish their pots with attention to detail.

Beginners Workshop Guidelines


GLAZING

Students will be contacted 2 weeks after their last session for a glazing demonstration, scheduled according to the instructor and studio availability, which they are expected to be present for.



FIRING

Students’ pieces will be bisque fired post 2 weeks from the end date of the workshop.

After glazing their work, students can collect their glaze fired items 2 weeks from the day they finish glazing.

Bisque fired pots will be discarded post two months from the date of the Glazing demo.


MAKE-UP SESSIONS

Only 1 make- up session will be offered in case of missing 2-3 classes.

This will include a session with the instructor for 60 minutes only.


If a student misses 4+ sessions, they will be moved to a new batch of the workshop, subject to availability.


In case a student requests to move their workshop from weekends to weekdays or vice versa, studio retains the right to schedule subject to availability. It may not always be possible, and the student may have to restart the workshop in the next available batch.


-Studio generally runs at least 2 workshops parallelly [ 1 weekend and 1 weekday]. In case a make-up session is not possible from the studio’s end, you will be moved to a parallel workshop, provided the schedule fits your convenience.


PRACTICE SESSIONS

Only 2 sessions of practice per week, are offered complimentary as part of the workshop package.

Please make sure to call up to check for availability of wheel, before you come in for practice.

 

GENERAL STUDIO DECORUM

- Students are required to respect the community space at the studio.

- Students are expected to prepare their own clay, manage used clay and discard clay- as guided by the instructor for each class, which remains constant for all sessions- class and practice.

- Students will be cleaning up after themselves, after every session- class and practice session alike, as guided by the instructor in the first session. Please follow the same.

- Students are to keep the tools and equipment in their designated place after usage.
